I now ride with arm coolers and leg coolers. Also, I use sunscreen (SPF 50, liquid shirt). I'm about to order a skull cap too for under my helmet. These new helmets have great ventilation... however, my hair is currently reducing its concentration on my head. These coolers are very worthwhile. I'm no longer receiving a sunburn while riding in the summer. I feel better about the conscious steps I'm taking for my health. And truth is, I want to say I'm actually cooler while riding with these garments because it's the truth. My skin is just not being heated by the sun. Regardless, don't judge the garments while you're sitting on the tarmac, in the sun, while waiting for a red light... no situation is a good one there.
Also, I did read, and can confirm, that the soaking these with water to get them 'started' is a good plan. Confirmed. I just did it in a very hot & humid environment and it worked quite well. All that being said, don't be a dolt and soak your arm & leg coolers with water without drinking as much as you need first. [water is for drinking in the summer time, not for splashing your face - this is not a diet sprite commercial!]
If you're uptight about the cost... don't be. You've already bought a bike that is worth more than your mortgage payments for three months. Your health is likely worth the cost of lunch this week. These DeSoto lovelies are as good &/or better than any others I've seen or tried. As for the price, they're a reasonable / good price as well.
Now though, I do have to visit my oncologist in an attempt to mitigate the damage I've already done.
Grrrr, seems I was borne to early. [however, if I was borne in the past 30 years, it'd be acceptable to be 60% bodyfat, .. but that's another topic.]
