When purchasing triathlon shorts there are many things to consider, perhaps the most important of which is the tri chamois. A tri chamois can be as thin as a layer of fleece or thicker padded foam, similar to a cycling chamois. The type of chamois you need is a matter of personal preference and the length of your race. The longer you are on the bike the more padding you may need. All tri chamois are made from quick drying materials to keep you from becoming water logged after your swim. Another important aspect of tri shorts is the leg gripper. Some shorts come with silicone beaded grippers, which keep the shorts securely in place but can also chaffe. Other shorts have powerbands (compressive fabric) which are more comfortable but can be less effective. Some shorts offer compression panels, which reduce muscle oscillation and aid in blood flow.
